Got Supremes?

03.13.2013

Supreme is, of course, a legendary brand in the skating, streetwear world. After 19 years in the game, their latest offerings still garner huge lines and instant sellouts. Their collaborations with Nike have been among their greatest collector items, with the Supreme Dunk Lows in 2002 and then again with the Supreme Dunk Highs in 2003.

The original Nike Supreme Dunk Lows are now legendary shoes for collectors. The prices and collectibility of these kicks has remained extremely high for a decade now. The Supreme Dunk Lows were released in 2002 and were available in black or white cement. They were limited to 500 pairs of each colorway. I happen to own both colorways and they both have interesting stories behind them.

I bought the black Supreme Dunk Lows in 2007. I paid a hefty price for them, more than I’ve ever paid for a pair of shoes, $800 from Flight Club! But I’d like to say that the money wasn’t all mine since I won a huge poker tournament and decided to splurge and get myself the Supremes as a present to myself. I beat out 1,181 people in a $25 buy-in online tournament on Poker Stars in 2007, the prize for 1st place was over $6,000… so I spent a little money on myself!

I was able to get the White/Cement Supreme Dunk Lows during the DJ AM Shoe Auction on eBay. He had multiple pairs of these, I believe 3 in total. One deadstock pair with a box went to Thee Mike B, there was a worn pair and then another deadstock pair without a box, that’s the pair I have (still unworn as of early 2013):

On the 10 year anniversary of the classic Supreme Dunk Lows releases, Nike & Supreme teamed up again to do a brand new Supreme Dunk Low in 2012 that combined the classic elephant print with red.  They look amazing, I just recently copped a pair for my collection:

In the Summer of 2003, Supreme teamed up with Nike for the Supreme Dunk Highs. The shoe was available in 3 different colorways: Red, Orange & Blue. These shoes sport the famous gold stars on the sides, croc skin leather and the gold Supreme laceholder. It was an instant sellout with less than 1000 pairs made of each.

I received all 3 pairs of Supreme highs on the same day in 2007. It was an incredible birthday gift from my homie Adam Goldstein aka DJ AM. The day of my birthday, Adam says to me “I’m getting something for you but it hasn’t arrived yet.” I didn’t think much of it at the time and told him he didn’t need to get me anything, but he insisted it was coming and that I’d be super happy. He told me a few times over the next month or so that he was still getting me something and that it would arrive eventually. By now, my curiosity was piqued… what the hell was this gift anyway???

So about 3 months after my birthday he calls me and says “your birthday gift has arrived, come by the crib and pick it up!” I roll out to his house in the Beverly Hills and there are 3 silver Nike SB boxes next to his DJ setup and he goes “Happy Birthday bro!” and I said “which one?”… “all of them bro… I can’t believe I’m giving you these, I don’t even have all of these joints.” He had bought me all 3 Supreme Dunk highs deadstock! Any shoe head will tell you that’s an UNBELIEVABLY INCREDIBLE gift!! To even find all 3 of the same size unworn 5 years after their release is a feat in itself.

But the story doesn’t end there… since Adam’s passing, I’ve become close friends with the homie Kirk from And Still & For All To Envy. He’s the man who sold AM & myself a very large portion of our vintage rap tee collections. So one day he’s over at my house and sees my Supreme Dunk Highs and asks about them. I tell him the story about how AM got them for my birthday. You should have seen the look on his face as he says “he bought them from me! I always wondered why he wanted all three Supreme highs because they weren’t even his size!” It truly is a small world…

My man Kirk STILL has the email convo that he & Adam had about the kicks… amazing! How many friends do you have that buy you $1550 birthday gifts? AM was one of the most generous guys I’ve ever met. Check em out:

And finally, here are a couple shots of my entire Supremes collection:

Travel Gear: Mophie Juice Pack Helium

03.12.2013

Here is an essential travel item for the DJ on-the-go: the Mophie Juice Pack Helium for iPhone 5. Big shoutout to my man, DJ Evil One, for putting me up on this piece of gear. It essentially doubles the battery life of your iPhone 5, which for any heavy traveler/user is a MUST to stay connected! It’s also very stylish, protects your phone & it’s easy to use. It makes the phone slightly longer & heavier but its nothing major in my opinion. First time I used it I was totally amazed… just wait for your battery to hit the 20% warning then flip the switch on the back of the Mophie and it will charge your battery all the way back up to 100%. Works flawlessly & effective, I HIGHLY recommend this if you are on your phone all the time.

Here’s some more details of what it does:

“Engineered with edge-to-edge protection and outfitted with 80% more battery life to keep your iPhone 5 safe and charged, the juice pack helium™ allows you to truly do more. Simultaneously charge your iPhone and juice pack together with the included micro-USB cable. Use the LED indicator to check battery levels before you head out and flip the standby switch when you’re ready to use the juice pack’s battery or when you need to recharge your iPhone while on-the-go.”

And here are a couple pics of it in the case and on my iPhone 5. It’s sleek AND effective!
